The Megalodon was approximately 40 feet (12 metres) long, although fossil records show that they could often grow as large as 78 feet (18 metres). So if you were to stand the Megalodon on its nose it would be as tall as a six story building. I've heard this question many times, and to make it quick, the males were estimated of 70-120 ft. while the females were 80-140 ft. Here's a fact that effects the fish: the females are always bigger. about 40 ft

M ore like 50 ft

In 1996, a scientist named Gottfried, came up with a formula for measuring how long megalodons were based on their tooth lenth:

Length in meters = (.96 x A II slant height cm) - .22

Megalodon teeth that have been found are usually around 5 inches long, which would come out to the shark being about 40 ft long. The longest teeth discovererd were over 7 inches long, so that results in a shark that was 60 ft long! These days the Great White is only 22 ft long at the most. Therefore, if a megalodon lived enough to reach its full length, that length could reach 60 ft or more.

No one knows for sure but you can look at its teeth.

On a Great White Shark for every inch of tooth there is that equivalents to about ten feet of body length.

A seven inch Megalodon tooth would probably mean that they were seventy feet long at there largest.

How much does the tooth of a megalodon shark weigh?

The Megalodon weights about 50-60 tons. That would be the average weight of the Megalodon. But the biggest was 103 tons! WOW ! That's big!By: Dawnydawn664 and wareThe maximum weight C. megalodon could reach is, to be quite honest, unknown to science. It depends on the lenght of each specimen. For example, an average sized megalodon (between 16 to 17 metres long) would have an weight of 48,000 to 60,000 kg.Larger specimens with a lenght of 20.3 metres would have weighted 103,000 kg, according to Michael Gottfried et al.The problem is that Gottfried used, in 2008, as a basis for estimate of max. lenght and weight of C. megalodon a set of fossilized remains that included teeth with a max. height of 184.81 mm.In 2010, Vito Bertucci, a fossil collector, presented to the scientific community a fossilized megalodon tooth with a height of 193.67mm.And it is a mathematical certitude that this larger tooth did NOT belonged to the largest megalodon in the world's oceans! So, marine biologists Patrick J. Schembri et al. could have been more accurate with their avaliation of megalodon's maximum total lenght of 24 to 25 metres (79 to 82 ft).Under this last estimative, the maximum weight of a megalodon would be approximately 180,000 kg, the weight of the largest extant blue whales (Balaenoptera musculus).

What is meglodon?

The megalodon was the worlds largest shark to ever live it lived in prehistoric times but is said to be extinct this shark was around 75ft long and there tooth was the size of a human hand they are related to the great white shark and is said to be the same exact way. Scientist say this animal is extinct but there is no real evidence for its extinction they said it could be food shortage when whales went to colder waters where the megalodon could not follow. But megaldon was the worlds biggest and most aggressive shark to ever live

Are whale sharks the largest sharks?

yesOf the non-extinct species, the Whale Shark is the largest, exceeding even the Great White Shark, so the answer is Yes.Of the extinct species, the most likely to be the biggest shark is the extinct Megalodon. The Megalodon was about 13 meters long and a single tooth was estimated to be 4 inches long!YesYes. This also makes it the biggest fish in the world.

How long is a newborn megalodon shark?

I'm a shark tooth collector, and the smallest principle megalodon tooth I've seen was 1.48' inches long and 1.12' inches wide. If you were to compare this tooth to a great white tooth of comparable size, that shark would be between 6"- 8" feet long.

What are the clues that fossils reveal about the behavior and diet of megalodon?

Like other sharks, Megalodon's skeleton is made of cartilage, not bone. That means it doesn't fossilize well. The vast majority of Megalodon fossils that we have are teeth, and we also have a few vertebrae. From these, we can tell that Megalodon was a huge shark, but it is still difficult to get an exact size estimate (maximum figures say it was about 50+ feet long, compared with great whites which are only 20 feet long, at the largest). We also know that Megalodon had a global distribution, and that it lived between 15.9 and 2.6 million years ago. The other thing we know is that they probably ate cetaceans, such as whales, because some whale skeletons from the period show tooth marks that match those of Megalodon.
