In a way this is a trick question, because everyone can do a split, but just cant get all the way down to the ground.

∙ 13y agoAbout 1 in every 1,000 (maybe 10,000) people can do oversplit. It's rare for someone to be able to do the split, but the oversplit is rarer.

How do you do an oversplit?
Do a complete side/center split first. Gradually increase the height between one of your foot and the ground below that foot as you stretch. Remember to fully loosen all necessary muscles, so you don't tear any of them.
How do you train the oversplit?
The oversplit is simply doing the split except your legs bend even farther than 180o. First, you should have no problem doing the 180o split on flat ground. To try going past 180o, get 2 chairs slightly above ground and place them wide apart enough so that you can do split on them so that one foot is on each chair. Do the split on the 2 chairs so your body is above air in between. Push your heels down onto the chairs to feel tension in your leg muscles, then try to descend by allowing the angle between your legs to exceed 180o. If it starts to hurt, hold that position so you feel enough pain to bear and are stretching your oversplit. Then, try to get back up to 180o so that your legs are parallel to the floor again and loosen your leg muscles a bit, then try descending again. Don't go so far down that the pain becomes excruciating. Another way to practice the oversplit is to stand straight up on flat ground. Focus your weight onto your left leg and lift your right leg straight up toward the sky. Hold your right foot with your left leg and keep your right shoulder in front of your right knee, and stretch.
