That may be correct (it is close - the latest # is 391) if you include all National Park Service properties - but you need to differentiate between National Parks (of which there are 58), National Monuments, National Historic Sites, etc. And, of course, National Forests under the care of the Dept of the Interior.
Actually, it is a common misconception that there are almost 400 National Parks in the United States. There are just under sixty (60) National PARKS. This 388 number includes National monuments and other historic sites. Parks would be, e.g., Yellowstone National Park. Muir Woods in California or The Statue of Liberty are NOT Parks, they are monuments and other sites that are park of the national parks system.
