There have been three Popes so far which lived in North Africa, none of them black:

Pope Victor I, who was Pope from 186-197;

Pope Militiades, who served from 311-314;

Pope Gelasius, who sat in Peter's chair from 492-496.

No All Popes have been caucasian (White) Most have been Italian.

There have been three African popes.
Pope Victor I (189 to 199)
Pope Miltiades (310/311 to 314)
Pope Gelasius I (492 to 496)

Their actual race is not known, however, but at least Miltiades appears to have been a native of Africa.

There have been three early popes from north Africa but their races are not known. They could have been white or dark skinned or black.
There have been three African popes (so far):

  • St. Victor I (189-199)
  • St. Melchiades (311-314)
  • St. Gelasius (492-496)

In the early days of the Church there were 3 popes from northern Africa but their races are not known. It is thought that one of them was black. There is always the possibility of a black pope in the future.
