The answer to this question is almost impossible, as some Catholic churches, while still be recognized as such, have been put to other uses or turned into museums. As well, there are chapels and many other such designations that function as a church building but which are not registered as such.

The closest statistic to your query is the number of parishes. In 2005 the number of parishes, with or without a resident pastor, numbered 270,125.

Catholic AnswerThere are numerous creeds in the Catholic Church, but only two of which are used regularly. The Nicene Creed is recited at Mass on all Solemnities (highest rank of a holy day) and Sundays. The Apostles Creed is usually said at the beginning of the Rosary, occasionally in Masses for Children, etc. There are many other creeds, as in the Credo of the People of God by Pope Paul VI, the Profession of Faith by Pope Pius IV in his bull, Iniunctum nobis in 1564, the Athanasian Creed which used to be said at Prime on the feast of the Holy Trinity and on lesser Sundays after Epiphany and Pentecost, unless a commemoration has been made at Lauds of a double feast or an octave. Prime has been suppressed, however, since Vatican II.

There is only one Catholic Church, but there are different types of Catholic churches such as the eastern rite. The Eastern Rite Catholic church uses icons (pictures) instead of statues, has the gated altar and speaks partly in Latin and partly in the common language of the location. They all acknowledge the Pope as the ruler of their church.

If the question is about church buildings, often simply called churches, there are probably hundreds of thousands of Roman Catholic church buildings.

Roman Catholic AnswerThere are no psalms "in the Catholic Church". The psalms are in The Bible, in the book of Psalms. The book of Psalms contains 150 psalms no matter which Church or Synagogue you attend.

There are many similarities between Catholic Churches and Church of England churches for the simple reason that all the original Church of England churches were Catholic Churches before they were stolen by King Henry VIII and appropriated for his new "church". They all contain an altar situated in a sanctuary, and a place for the people (called the nave). Many of them still contain a choir between the nave and the altar.

How are Catholic churches in the US different from Catholic churches in England?

In that Catholic churches in the US are predominantly filled with Americans whereas in England, they are predominantly filled with Englishmen. This may sound like a flippant answer, but i assure you it is not. The whole point of the Catholic Church is that it is just that, Catholic. Catholic is a word which means universal and the Church is the same all over the world, excepting the cultural differences of the faithful in each country. One faith, one liturgy, one Church: many, many different people.

Is St Mark's Church of Christ a Catholic church?

Catholic churches almost never use the label "Church of Christ," even though that is what they are. They avoid using this term only so as to avoid being confused with other denominations and communities of that or similar name already in existence, such as Churches of Christ; Independent Churches of Christ; International Churches of Christ; United Churches of Christ; United Churches of Christ, Congregational; Churches of Christ, Scientist; and Church of Christ, Instrumental. Catholic churces almost always have the word Catholic in their name.
