This depends on your state, the fines of which can be as high as $1000 or more. In most states passing a stopped school bus gives you six points on drivers license: next to reckless driving, passing a stopped school bus is the second most serious traffic infraction you can commit. And in many states this is actually a crime for which you could be put in jail.
Yes. The exact amount of the fine varies by state, but also carries with it a pretty high point rating - while this may also vary by state, four points seems to be the norm.
This exact distance will vary state to state depending on the state staute, however a good rule of thumb would be no closer than 50 -100 feet.

It depends on the state and the specific case. Generally, if you are cited for a red light and there is no traffic accident, you can expect points or a mark on your driving history as well as a fine, anywhere from $100 to $400.
Failing to yield for a pedestrian is an infraction, and the MAXIMUM fine for an infraction in CA is $250. However, unless this was an aggravated case (where, say, the pedestrian was struck by the car), the fine would probably be much less. The bad news is that the State has imposed so-called penalties and assessments on top of the base fine, which roughly triples the amount. So if the Court fines you $100, you will pay about $300.
If the check engine line is flashing then that means there is a real problem and you should have it looked at, But if the light is on and NOT flashing the it is most likely a problem with the emmisions system and most likely an oxygen sensor.
I would check the wires just behind the light. I had the same problem and the wires were broken a little just wiggle them as the lights are on.

In California, the fine for passing a school bus that's stopped with flashing red lights is $1000.00
I recently got a ticket for passing a school bus that was not flashing lights but was opening the stop sign as I was approaching the bus. I received my fine and almost fell back for knowing that my fine was $742. I appeared in court and now appealing the fine. It was not my fault that the bus was not flashing the lights.

$250 for the first offense. You must come to a complete stop and wait for the bus to turn off their red flashing lights before you are eligible to proceed
