How many is a few?
While few does not always mean exactly the same to everyone, generally a few is more than 2 (a couple) and a small number. A small number might mean 3 to some and another number to someone else. It might also depend on the number of total items that are being talked about. Out of a group of 50, 3 or 4 might be a few. In a group of 100,000, 100 might be considered a few. It might be prudent to note that in the Bible, at 1 Peter 3: 20 it states "...while the ark was being constructed, in which a few people, that is, eight souls, were carried safely through the water." So we can say that a few are 8.

I would say from 3 to 6. Different people will have different definitions of "few" and use few for widely different numbers on different occasions. Additional Input I think this answer depends on who says it and what is going on in the time they are gone.… * In dollars and sense a few is three, no more than three and a half. In a jar of marbles, a few is how many fit in your hand when you reach in and grab "a few." * So, if your roommate says they are going for a walk, with their repeatedly broken off - not going to get back together, ex - boy/girl - friend and tells you; "I'll see you in a few." If 20 minutes goes by and they are not back, it is time to call and see if they are OK. If your room mate is out with a new boy/girl friend and they are hanging out at a sports bar, watching a game and having some munchies. They may be gone four or five hours - without breaking the few hour rule.
