This is a very good question.

A Watt is a unit of power, or energy with respect to (divided by) time, and is defined as 1 Joule per second.

A 100 Watt light bulb consumes energy at a rate of 100 Joules (J) per second (s).

There are 60 seconds in every minute, and 60 minutes in every hour. So also, there are 3600 seconds in every hour (60 X 60).

100 J/s X 3600s = 360,000 J (the s cancels out in the division)

Your bulb consumes 360,000 Joules in one hour.

"Joule" is a unit of energy, whereas "hour" is a unit of time. Since they're

associated with different physical quantities, they don't convert.

If it were possible to express a time in terms of an energy, then you'd be

able to figure out how many calories of sleep you got last night.

It really Depends on how much your using in your house at the time. Normal houses 2 Watts a Hour During the Morning and at night you can guess a bit higher

Watt-hour i-e energy, Don't ever confuse power with energy as energy is dependent whereas power is independent of time.

Electrical potential energy?

Electrical potential energy is the energy associated with the magnitudes of the charges on electrically charged particles and the positions of the particles relative to one another. The closer two particles with the same charge are, the greater the potential energy. Therefore, the particles have the greatest electrical potential energy at position 1. Electrical potential energy is similar to gravitational potential energy. Both energies exist because the relative positions of two objects give the objects the ability to do work.

What is difference between Kilowatt power vs kilowatt hour?

Kilowatt is a measure of the rate of energy use. It is 1,000 Watts or 1,000 Joules per second. A kilowatt hour is 1,000 Joules per second for 3,600 seconds or 3,600,000 Joules. This means a Kilowatt hour not a rate but a measure of total energy used.

What is SI and commercial unit of energy?

The SI unit of energy is Joules The commercial unit of energy is KiloWaltHour(KWh) The relationship between SI unit and commercial unit is: 1 KWh=3.6*106J (or 3600000 J) One KiloWaltHour is: 1kWh = 1kW * 1h And the definition for kWh is: 1kWh is the electric energy consumed by an appliance of power 1 whenit is used for one hour

How energy and power related?

Power(watt) is the rate of change of energy. Take energy(joules) divide by time(seconds). u'll get power ________________________________________ Energy is the capacity to produce power

Is electric power the same as electrical energy?

No.First of all, there is no such thing as 'electrical power', although the term is used in everyday speech. Power is simply a rate, the rate at which one form of energy is converted into another, or the rate of heat transfer. As energy is measured in joules, power is measured in joules per second which, in SI, is given a special name, the watt.Energy, on the other hand, occurs in many forms, including electrical. All forms of energy, including electrical, is measured in joules. It is energy, not power. that you pay for, when your electricity utility charges you for 'using electricity'. As the joule is a very small unit, utilities traditionally use a special unit called a kilowatt hour (kW.h) to measure that energy although there is no reason why they shouldn't use a kilojoule or megajoule instead.

What unit measures electrical energy consumption?

In physics, the total amount of energy is measured in joules. The rate of energy use - joules/second - is the power, the unit is also known as watt. Electricity companies tend to use another measure for energy use: the kilowatt-hour (kWh), which of course is equal to 3.6 million joules.

What is electrical measurement?

Electric power (how fast energy is being converted into or out of electrical energy) is measured in Watts. Electrical energy is measured in Joules. i Watt for 1 second is 1 Joule. 1000 Watts for 3600 seconds is 3.6 Megajoules, also known as a kilowatt-hour or a Unit of electrical energy.

What is a watt of energy?

The watt is a unit of measurement as related to electrical energy. eg: one (1) kilowatt hour equals 3,412 BTUs.Another AnswerEnergy is not measured in watts, but in joules. A watt is used to measure power.

Why are electrical devices represented in watts?

A Watts is a measurement of power or energy usage represented by W. When you see this on an electrical device, say a sticker on an appliance, it tells you how much energy it will use in watts, or Joules per hour. This allows the consumer to compare similar appliances based on energy usage.

How much energy will a 5 hp motor consume in an hour?

5 HP MOTOR WOULD CONSUME ENERGY OF 1342800 JOULES IN AN HOUR.EXPLANATION :-1 HP = 746 WATTSTHEREFORE 5 HP = 3730 WATTS.= 373O Joules/sec (since 1WATT= 1 Joules/sec)=3730 x 3600= 13428000 Joules/ hour.

How much energy is 1 Megawatt?

First of all, a megawatt is not a unit of energy. It is a unit of power, or the rate at which energy is used. 1 watt corresponds to 1 joule per second. For example, a sixty watt lightbulb uses 60 joules of energy per second. So a megawatt is one million watts, or one million joules of energy per second. Electrical energy is often measured in kilowatt-hours by the electric company (So that they know how much to charge you). This is equivalent to the amount of energy that a kilowatt power source could supply in one hour. The amount of energy in joules that a kilowatt hour is goes as follows: 1 kilowatt = 1000 watts, so 1000 joules per second. Multiply this by the number of seconds in an hour, and you have 3600000J.

How are electricity and related?

Electrical energy is a form of energy, and can be measured in the same units, Joules in the SI system. Note that 1 watt = 1 Joule/sec. Electrical energy is often expressed in Kilowatthours or Megawatthours, which are the normal ways an electric company measures your usage. 1 Kilowatthour just means a steady power of 1 kilowatt maintained for 1 hour. Since there are 3600 seconds in an hour, 1 kilowatthour = 3600 kilowattseconds. Now 1 watt = 1 Joule/sec, so 1 Joule = 1 wattsec, 1000 joules = 1 kilowattsec, so 3600 kilowattsecs = 1000 x 3600 Joules = 3.6 x 106 Joules = 1 kilowatthour.

What measurement is energy measured in?

It depends, If you measure your own energy it would be in joules, if it is for your house you measure it with kilo-watt hour

What is the equation of converting horsepower to joule?

Horsepower is a unit of power, but joules is a unit of energy. To convert horsepower to joules, you need an additional time parameter. One horsepower is about 745.7 watts. So a horsepower-hour is 745.7 watt-hours. One watt-hour is 3600 joules. A horsepower-hour is then 745.7 times 3600 = 2684520 joules.

How many joules in a mega joule?

This question has been answered in wikipedia:A joule is ...The work required to continuously produce one watt of power for one second; or one watt second (W·s) (compare kilowatt hour). This relationship can be used to define the watt.http:/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JouleThe kilowatt hour, or kilowatt-hour, (symbol kW·h, kWh) is a unit of energy equal to 3,600,000 joules. Energy in watt hours is the multiplication of power in watts and time in hours.http:/en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kilowatt_hour
