This is a list of some of the available smaller size propane tanks: * 20# = 4 gallon * 30# = 7 gallon * 40# = 10 gallon * 60# = 15 gallon * 100# = 25 gallon ...and then there are the larger home tanks ranging from 250, 200, 750 and 1,000 gallons.

A 20 pound tank will hold 4.7 gallons of liquid propane; the total weight of the tank PLUS LP should be ~37 lbs. (on the collar of the tank there will be a stamp 'TW' for 'tare weight'. This is the weight of the empty tank, so total weight is this number plus 20).

Many places fill only to 75% or 80%, so pay attention if they charge "per tank" pricing that it is in line with their fill policy. If they are charging based on 100% and are filling to 80%, you're being ripped off.

That depends on how small! I have a propane cartridge that holds about an ounce, a blow torch that is about a pint, an outdoor grill tank that holds 2 gallons. These are all small compared to the propane tank at the filling station that holds thousands of cubic feet.

It depends on the size of the tank to how much it will cost. For a standard 20 pound tank, it will likely cost around $40. If you recycle your old propane tank, you can get a discount and the new one will cost less.

There are a number of different propane tank sizes out there, and the size you get will be dictated by a couple of major factors. Namely, you'll need to consider exactly what you'll be using the propane tank for and how much propane you think you'll be using. For example, there are a number of smaller propane tanks that you can get that work perfectly well with bar-b-ques. This is because they are mobile, and hold enough propane to have a decent lifespan with basic use. However, getting this same size of propane tank for your hot water heater may not be such a good idea.

Propane Tank Sizes: Which Tank Size Is Right for You?

Selecting the appropriate propane tank size is essential for effective operation without complications. Propane tanks are available in a range of sizes for different uses and needs. A 20-pound tank, often used for grilling or occasional heating, is sufficient for smaller residential requirements and offers easy portability. For larger home appliances such as furnaces, water heaters, or stoves, a 100-pound tank is often adequate, reducing the frequency of refills needed for moderate use. In scenarios with greater demand, like heating an entire residence or running several appliances, substantial tanksβ€”500-gallon or 1,000-gallonβ€”are necessary, particularly in homes heavily dependent on propane. For commercial and industrial use, tanks can scale up from 1,000 gallons to several thousand gallons to maintain a steady propane supply. Determining the best propane tank size should be based on use frequency, the quantity of propane-dependent appliances, and the size of your property. A propane expert should be consulted to ensure safe and regulation-compliant use.
