Long answer: it depends what kind of bulbs you're using, how big your plant is, how you have the light spaced, etc. 250 watts= 5, 50 watt incandescent bulbs; 6, 40 watt, 4-foot fluorescent bulbs; two 125 watt metal halide or high pressure sodium bulbs. If you can afford the HPNa or the MH, you can afford more wattage. If you're strictly limited, I would recommend 3, 4-foot, dual bulb fluorescent shoplights with alternating "daylight" and "plant/aquarium" bulbs. That should cost you about $20 per fixture, and $4-5 per bulb, for a total cost of $90 to grow an ounce of pot. Or you could buy a quarter of some good stuff and forget the effort, time, space, and risk.
