A Jedi master can have multiple padawans, but typically only one at a time in order to provide focused training and guidance. It is not uncommon for Jedi masters to take on more than one padawan throughout their careers.
1 at a time they can have several throughout there life. where as a Sith Master can have two at a time. Darth Sidious was under that impression in Star Wars Episode 6 when Vader takes Luke to the Death Star. Fortunately Sidious was wrong and was thrown down a tar pit into the depths of space instantly killing him. however since sidious bent the force to make anakin he did the same to another.... Jedi start out as a child that gets taken to the jedi acadamy. They are then taken to tranning in classes. They are at this time cald younglings or learners(This is what you would call a trainee Jedi). Then they are taken as a apprentice of a master jedi they are called Padawans. Then the padawans then have to take trials to become a jedi knight. If they show there skill in the force they are to be a jedi master which the High council is made up of. Com. Cody
Jedi Padawans are granted the rank of Knighthood through initiation from the order. Then, once Knighted, the Jedi can take up one Padawan and are no longer taught by a Master.
If you meant to ask, what are Jedi apprentices called, they are called "Padawans"
Because Jedi are automatically given the rank of General or Commander. The Padawans are Commanders while the Jedi Knights and Masters are Generals.
This hasn't been explicitly addressed in the movies or Expanded Universe, but generally padawans wear a braid on the back or top of their heads (depending on their species' physiology), which is removed when they become full Jedi knights.
IN THE OLD REPUBLIC/GALACTIC REPUBLIC...No, Jedi Masters or Knights can not have more than one Padawan. There is a rule of Two - one Master, one Student, like there is with the Sith. This is why Master Yoda refuses Qui-Gon Jinn's request to train Anakin Skywalker as well as Obi-Wan Kenobi.IN THE NEW REPUBLIC/NEW JEDI ORDER...Yes, Jedi Masters and Knights can have more than one Padawan. For example, Luke Skywalker (Jedi Grand Master) takes on two Padawans at once during the early years of the Jedi Praxeum on Yavin IV. These two Padawans are Jacen Solo and his younger brother, Anakin. The rule of Two was changed after the fall of the Empire.Question answered by Jenny Lodge.
Its on the movie Star wars its like learning to be a Jedi knight but not one yet first stage is youngling padawan jedi knight and Jedi master. And a padawan is strong but not as strong as a jedi knight better than a youngling though
Yoda did not have a master, he was the ultimate jedi. While I agree Yoda was the ultimate jedi, he had a master. His master's name was Jedi Master N'Kata Del Gormo.
Jedi Master Kit Fisto's only known master is Jedi Grand Master Yoda.

The lowest rank of jedi is a youngling, they are taught to control the force and use a light saber. After that they become a padawan, then a jedi knight, then a jedi master, then a jedi council member, and lastly a jedi grand master.
A Jedi Master is a highly skilled, "senior" Jedi Knight. A Jedi Knight is someone who fights with a lightsaber, and a Jedi Master is someone who fights with a lightsaber AND can teach other possible Jedi.
