There have been fourteen US Presidents that were Freemasons: George Washington, James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, James Polk, James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, James Garfield, William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, William Taft, Warren Harding, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Gerald Ford and Geogre Bush SNR Lyndon Johnson was initiated as an Entered Apprentice, but never received the other two degrees required for him to be considered a Mason in Texas. Regan however did receive an honrary Scottish Rite membership (but he was not actually a freemason, nor a scottish rite mason).

• Abraham Lincoln applied for membership in Tyrian Lodge, in Springfield, Ill., in 1860 but withdrew his petition because he felt that becoming a Mason at that time could be considered as a cynical attempt to gain votes. He informed the lodge that he would resubmit his application again when he retired from the Presidency, but never got the chance.
• Thomas Jefferson and James Madison may have been masons,but their membership can not be proven.
• Lyndon Johnson received his first degree on October 30, 1937. After receiving the degree he found that his congressional duties (elected in 1937) took so much time he was unable to pursue the masonic degrees. According to some American authorities, that means that he was not a Freemason; according to everyone else in the world, you are a Freemason after you take your first degree.
• Ronald Reagan was made an honorary Shriner and honorary Scottish Rite, but never took any degrees.
• G.W. Bush took his inaugural oath on a Bible which belongs to a Masonic Lodge, but that certainly does not make him a Mason.

George Bush was sworn into office using the historic Bible that belonged to the Lodge.
