Obama, who received 332 electoral votes to Romney's 206, won re-election by carrying 26 states and the District of Columbia. He needed 270 to retain the presidency. Obama became the first president since Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952 and 1956 to win back-to-back presidential elections with more than 51 percent of the popular vote.
