Aprroximately two million (2,000,000) Indians served in the British Indian Army during the war. My understanding is that they were mostly assigned to support duties but I don't know that for certain. Another twenty thousand (20,000) or so fought for the Japanese. I don't know how many of either of these groups died in the war. Since it has now been nearly sixty years since the war most of them are undoubtedly dead now. The rest are very old men. Michael Montagne

Some fought out of genuine patriotism or nationalistic feeling. Some fought because they believed the enemy needed to be stopped. Some fought because they were drafted or conscripted into the service and had no choice. Some fought because everybody else was doing it, and they girls would look at them with disgust if they tried to stay home and did not go too. Men in combat units, then, as now and always, fought for their friends alongside them.
France wasn't doing so good during World War 1. During World War 1, much of the western front had been fought on French Soil. France had some 1.4 million military personnel and 400,000 civilians dead.
They have fought for our freedom and they have fought to keep us at least a little happy. we should be grateful for them though they left there family and friends to keep us safe because if it wasn't for them i don't even know what we would be doing right now or ever.
It was to get the British out of India by not doing their jobs and going on strike. this devastating final bow made the British leave India, and let it be it's own free country.
They are trying to make peace with in the world.
The relationship can be thought of as "rusty"... The officers were only doing their jobs; keeping the soldiers obediant/diciplined and to ensure that they fought properly. However, the soldiers did not like it when they were forced to march and complete drills. They were annoyed that they fought in the front lines and the officers stayed well back. But how do you think the officers became officers? They would have gone through the same things!
World war 1 was not fought in America... it was fought in Europe, and the Americans were doing what Americans do best, being lazy arses, come in late in the war on the winning side, and then say WE WON THE WAR

This march led to over 100,000 people dying after the battle. The American and Filipino soldiers who fought in this battle were punished by doing the march.
France was occupied by the Germans after they surrendered to the Germans. Some French soldiers made it to England and they fought against the Germans again when the Normandy Invasion occurred. I have added another link for you below.
Hitler was a veteran of WWI who fought under the German army.
Ireland had the largest Volunteer Force in WW1, Irish soldiers fought for the British army and were promised Independence for doing so, which the British later renaged on. Ireland lost over 50,000 soldiers in WW1 fighting under poor British commanders from upper class backgrounds with extremely limited military knowledge and experience. Many Irish volunteers also fought for other Armys such as Canada and the US.
US soldiers and Marines are fighting the Taliban .
The reason US fought was because Japan attacked them. Hitler was doing bad tihngs but US was not one of the countries that jumped to the smaller countries protection.
Mother spend most of her life in India, especially in Calcutta.
