It's hard to pin down an exact number, since the Greeks did not keep reliable records of these things. It is estimated, though, that Athens lost about half of its male citizens during the war, not only during the fighting but also to plague and famine. Sparta also suffered great losses, and by the end of the war there were not more than a few thousand Spartan men of fighting age left. This does not include the non-Spartans and slaves that made up a large part of the Spartan army.

Herodotus said the Greeks lost 110,000, and the Persians lost 300,000, but it should be remembered that numbers quoted by Herodotus are suspect. Modern historians believe the number of men killed was lower than what Herodotus claimed, but still high enough to make Plataea a very bloody battle, and thousands died on both sides.
