There are only 2 states that the Mississippi River passes through. These states are Louisiana and Mississippi. The river does run along the borders of Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota.

To answer you quite literally, it only flows THROUGH Minnesota and Louisianna. For all the other states it travels along the border of those states. The Mississippi River runs through or along 10 states, from Minnesota to Louisiana, and was used to define portions of these states' borders, with Wisconsin, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi along the east side of the river, and Iowa, Missouri, and Arkansas along its west side.
