In some countries, the teaspoon is used as a unit of volume, especially in cooking recipes and pharmaceutic prescriptions. It is abbreviated in English as t. or tsp., German from Teelöffel and Dutch from Theelepel.

A teaspoon is often taken to mean 5 millilitres.

1 milliliter of water is 1 gram.

Teaspoon dry has the problem of the unknown specific weight, also known as the unit weight, is the weight per unit volume of a material, like sugar or powder sugar.

There is no specific answer to this one because teaspoonis a measure of volume whereas gram is a measure of mass (think "weight"). So a teaspoon of Ivory Flake detergent would be very light, likely much less than a gram. On the other hand, a teaspoon of lead bird shot, say, would be many grams. The essential difference between materials that take up a lot of space vs. a small amount of space is defined by their densities, expressed as mass/volume. If your dry material has the same density as water, then one gram would be about one fifth of a teaspoon.
