But the mountain has a voilent past and is still active and past eruptions have resulted in a big caldera with two large lakes in it and many lava flows and buttes with in its vicinity. Newberry Volcanoes last eruption is estimated to be 1,400 years ago and resulted in the big obsidian flow inside of the caldera.
