Purchase a good test! Test frequently - about every 30 minutes -- after adding chlorine. If your readings are still low - you did not add enough chlor. When you reach the goal of 1.5 to 3.0 ppm and it stabilizes there then you have add enough chlor for yourpool. When the chlor. stabilizes between the above readings - calculate what you added to the pool to achieve this and that is what may be required for your pool. That amount will vary because of weather, bather load, fill water, and any other contaminants that get into the pool water, conditioner level, pH levels and many other factors. The history of your pool over time is the only accurate way to determine demand for chlorine.

Buy a test kit, learn how to use it. Test the h2o and add some chlor. Test in 20 with the circulation going then adjust with more chlor. Once you have achieved a respectable reading between 1.5 and 3.0 ppm and it has stabilized at that level then that is what or how much it takes to sanitize the pool today - - next week it will be different. It depends upon bather load, the capacity of the filter and the pump, how long you are running the pump, whether it is windy or cloudy or sunny, how much dirt has been brought into the pool on the feet etc. Too many other factors to be included on the consumption of chlorine. There is no set way or formula for all pools. All pools have a different demand. BTW use 12.5% chlorine not Clorox at 5% it's useless You might as well use tap water to chlorinate.

You should use chlorine to save money. bleach is only 6% hydro acid. You can get a test kit from any hardware store & let pH determine. Add & test until it's where it's supposed to be.
