Amazon's Kindle 2 is 0.5 inches taller than its predecessor. However, the Kindle 2 is slimmer than it's older sibling - 0.34 inches slimmer to be exact.

Second, how do you root a device you don't have without having the the device. But, you can root a Kindle Fire which runs a custom version of Android 2.3. I don't think so. I have a regular Kindle and a Kindle Fire and the USB cable on the regular Kindle does not work with the Kindle Fire. But I think a USB cable shared between two regular Kindles might work.
