A Desert Locust adult can consume roughly its own weight in fresh food per day, that is about two grams every day. A very small part of an average swarm (or about one tonne of locusts) eats the same amount of food in one day as about 10 elephants or 25 camels or 2,500 people

As Geoff Lawton says in his Permaculture Food Forest DVD, "If you have a plague of grasshoppers you ACTUALLY have a deficiency of turkeys". A 1kg turkey will eat 3kg of grasshoppers in a season. Locusts and Grasshoppers are ideal prey for the ground bird habitat.

If you have a snail or slug problem you ACTUALLY have a duck deficiency!
