Plumbers make on average 35,000 a year

I paid my helpers $25 per hr and I have a journeyman I paid $1,200 PER DAY but this is the exception as these guys were highly skilled and even at these rates it left plenty of room for me to turn a profit

A "plumber" is someone who passed a journeymen's test and went through an apprenticeship and a decent mechanic makes $65 per hr or more NON Union union mechanics make more but they are "plumbers" not someone who gave themselves the title "plumber"

A "Master plumber" working alone who has the proper formal training can make well over $200,000 a year and if they have employees normal rule of thumb one makes slightly over $100 per hr per employee.

It all depends on skill level, area one is working and charging the right prices. a high school drop out with no formal training can only expect $45,000 - $60,000 a year, If they are working for a decent company.

A "master plumber" has the ability to work as an expert witness $550 per hr Plus and the master can hire others to generate more income.

A decent plumbers helper I pay $20 -$25 per hr

A journeyman plumber averages depending on skill level $45- $65 per hr

A licensed Master I pay up to $125 PER Billible HR

The problem is many people call themselves "plumbers" by watching someone and then actually believe they are "plumbers"

I have read enough nonsense on this question that I felt I must chime in. Any licensed professional who runs a legitimate business must charge! The professional plumber has put in years perfecting his craft and getting the education he needs to perform the job if protecting the health of the nation. We deal with water and waste removal imagine your life without these 2 basic needs. Just turn your kitchen sink off for a day and see how many times you go to use it.

When the plumber comes to your home he is carting with him a van $35,00000, tools $5,000.00, supplies $10,000.00, Insurance 12 - 15,000.00, tax burden and gov. fees, 30 -50,000.00, we still haven't even paid a salary yet or given the poor guy some benefit's, put gas in the truck. To even think a qualified educated, licensed, insured plumber can stay in business for less then $130 per hour is insane. You have a job you get your taxes taken out, insurance vacations doesn't the tradesmen working in your home deserve the same thing and a little respect for the skills that he has earned. Get with reality people keep your local plumber in business you just might need him someday.

Plumbers charge widely varying rates, but according to homeadvisor.com, the average cost per hour ranges from $45-$150 per hour depending on the job, timing, and location.

Here are some other opinions from our community:

  • If they are decent journeymen $90+ per hr if they are Master plumbers around $200 per hr, Helpers normally $50 per hr.
  • Licensed Plumbers charge $140-210 per hour, with a 2 hour minimum.
  • A licensed plumber working for a company will be paid $35-75.00 per hour depending on experience. if you hire a plumber you're looking at at least 250 dollars or more usually depending the work done.
  • Plumbers' wages are between $15.00 to $30.00 hour.
  • Plumbers charge between $60.00 to $90.00 per hour for service work.
