On a regular Social Security retirement, if a person retires before full retirement age, you are allowed to make $15,120 before your benefits are reduced. After the $15,120 amount has been passed one dollar of benefit will be deducted for each two dollars you earn.

Age 65 the earnings test will still apply for the year 2009 and 2010 the amount is 14160 of earned income.

Full Retirement Age (FRA) or Normal Retirement Age (NRA) has changed an will continue to increase the next few years.

FRA and NRA after those years that the earning amounts will not matter and you can earn as much as you want without the amount of earnings affecting your SSB benefit amount that you receive.

For the year 2010, if you did not reach your full retirement age, they will deduct $1 from your benefit for every $2 earned over $14,160. If you reach full retirement in 2010, they will deduct $1 for every $3 earned over $37,680 (earned by the month before your birthday). After your full retirement birthday, you can earn an unlimited amount any time after your birthday. See the Related Link below for full details.

Can you collect disability after working eight years if you are 72 years old and collect Social Security from your deceased spouse?

You collect disability only if you show that you are unable to perform work, not that you worked as long as you have. If you worked eight years and there are justifiable reasons for quitting, as determined by your state's employment security office then you might be eligible for unemployment benefits. This has nothing to do with the Social Security you are presently receiving.

Usually the nursing home uses the social security income as payment for services. Possibly you could have your social security payments (if you are at least 62) based on her income levels. You should plan to either work or find another means of income.

Can you collect unemployment benefits if you collect Social Security?

Yes, if you meet eligibility requirements for both programs. New York repealed the Social Security offset regulations that reduced unemployment compensation for people who were claiming both benefits. Both Social Security and the State of New York allow workers to collect unemployment and Social Security at the same time without applying a penalty to either check.
