The American Heart Association recommends less than 300 mg of cholesterol per day through food for people with no Heart disease risk factors, and recommends less than 200 mg per day through food for people who have any heart disease risk factors.

Conventional nutrition wisdom would say to eat less than 200 mg of cholesterol per day. However, in clinical studies it appears that the cholesterol that you eat doesn't have as much of an effect on your blood cholesterol as other lifestyle factors such as exercise and fat consumption.

If you have high cholesterol my number one piece of advice would be to take up weight lifting. My second piece of advice would be to lower intake of saturated fat, trans fat, sugar, and increase intake of monounsaturated fat, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids.

You don't need to consume any cholesterol. Your body makes all the cholesterol you need.

The upper limit for cholesterol is less than 300 milligrams per day. Higher intake is associated with health problems, including cardiovascular disease. Lower intake (as low as zero) is not associated with any health problems and may be beneficial for avoiding cardiovascular disease.

As far as dietary intake goes, you can exist without any dietary cholesterol. Your body will synthesize cholesterol from saturated fats. The recommended consumption is under 300 mg/day.
