It depends upon where the job is located, how well the company is doing, and how much experience the receptionist brings to the job. Generally, the pay scale may range from a beginning hourly rate as low as $8.00 per hour. It may go as high as over $30.00. The higher rates may be found in the more prestigious businesses and in those positions that require special skills, such as medical settings. But generally also, the receptionist yearly salary tends to hover between $25,000and $33,000 a year.

Medical and dental receptionists who work for larger practices or practices with multiple locations make anywhere from $14-$18 an hour and possibly as much as $22 an hour because they can afford to pay that much.

It depends upon where the receptionist is working and how long the receptionist has been on the job. General reception work may not pay that well in the beginning. Reception work that requires special skills, such as in medical settings, pays more. So hourly rates may vary from around $8.00 to over $30.00.
