A lot more than you think at this moment.

How true with the current mortgage crisis and the Bank Bail outs...

Probably more of a question of "how long" does it take to build a new Appartment complex and not "how much" cause I'm guessing it's going to be awhile... (as of july2009)

Otherwise take your regular local Residential building cost (what it would normally cost you to build a house) per Square foot .... then figure how much square footage your going to have... My Appartment I'm living in Texas is an effecintcy maybe 500 to 800 sqft add in Appliances... stove... ice box... dishwasher... HVAC unit... water closet... tub shower... kitchen sink/disposal and bathroom lavatory... and that should get you a good starting figure...

keep in mind that Building something like an Appartment should afford you some "economy of scale"....

Off the top of my head I would figure here in Texas (out in the boonies... not in one of the metro area's like Houston ,Dallas, Austin, etc.... ) $75 per sqft gets you a decient quality residential house.... 500sqft times 75 equals..... $37,500 then multiply that by 100 units.... $37.5mill..... probably a bit less than that with scale figured in and that you would not always build 100 units and all the units would not all be effeincys... multi room appartments are oviously cheaper to build as you need fewer Appliances per sqft...

--------------------------

Sorry but the math someone posted is wrong.
$75 x 500 sqft = $37,500 x 100 units = $3,750,000 not 37.5 Mill

The rent it self and usually electric, heat, water, and gas if your landord don`t cover it.

You have to pay for everything that a landlord includes in the lease, and then your own bills in addition to whatever is either not included in your rent or written in the lease.

Typically you would expect to pay the following:

> RENT

> GAS and/or OIL (some have one or the other & some have both)

> ELECTRICITY

** NOTE ** Some apartments include utilities, or they will include only heat, hot water, or electric... they will mention this in their ads and when they include any utilities this means it's one less bill for you. ** NOTE **

In Addition Here Are Other Common Things:

> PHONE (save on a phone bill by using only your cell or get magicjack)

> internet (save by checking for unsecured wireless in the area first)

> Cable Television or SATELLITE

Then there are possibilities depending on where you live that you could pay:

> GARBAGE PICKUP

> WATER BILL

** NOTE ** The above two things are not common, but you could see those charges if you rent a house and not an apartment. ** NOTE **

Then there are optional things you could pay, such as:

> RENTERS INSURANCE (not needed but its good to have)

> HOME ALARM SYSTEM (again, not needed but keeps you safe)

> FURNITURE RENTAL, LEASE OR FINANCING (if you can't afford to buy it all)

There are a lot of costs to having an apartment, but at the minimum you should plan on paying your rent, gas (for heat, hot water and cooking) and electric. Anything over this is up to you if you want a phone, cable, internet, etc...

You really need to give more information. The price of an apartment varies according to a number of things, not limited to the following: size, number of bedrooms, location, height, desirability of area, supply/demand, city, country, year, etc.

At the very least you would need to know

1- Where you wanted to live. Narrow it down to a single town, suburb, locality or postal code

2- How big your apartment needed to be.

It depends on the size of the apartment complex in question as well as the material used, how long it takes to build and the cost of all fees and licenses to get the building started. This can typically cost between $350,000 and $1,000,000.

It can vary immensely based on borough, neighborhood, proximity to public transport (especially the subways), the size of the apartment, the amount of bedrooms, and the overall elegance of the building. It can be as low as $300 a month in the poorer and more dangerous areas for a studio or as high $30,000 a month for penthouse suites with over a dozen bedrooms that look out over Central Park.

Finding Cheap Apartments For Rent?

Housing costs have skyrocketed, and the economy is still not really improving. Everyone is scrambling to save some money on monthly bills. If you are an apartment dweller, your geographic location is going to play a huge roll in how much rent you pay. The difference between renting an apartment in New Jersey and renting one in NYC can be huge. Cheap apartments rent for around $600 per month in New Jersey. In NYC, a parking space cannot be had for $600 per month. Saving Some Money You can really tighten the belt and save some money each month by moving from where you are located to an area that is a bit further from where you are now, especially if you live in a large urban area. Although it seems like you would be spending more money in transportation costs to get to and from work, most large outlying areas will have transportation options in place. Let’s look at a few examples, building on the New Jersey/NYC scenario mentioned above. Cheap apartments rent for around $600 in New Jersey. This will get you a one bedroom walk up, nothing fancy, in a safe, clean neighborhood. Cheap apartments rent for around $1000 a month in NYC. However, it is not a one bedroom apartment. Instead, it is a studio (a studio is one large room, that typically has a kitchenette on one side of the wall, a place to put a bed on the other side and a separate bathroom) typically these types of apartments at this price are found in less than desirable neighborhoods, sometimes they are illegal basement apartments without any windows. So, not only are you saving money by taking the apartment in New Jersey, but your quality of life is better. That is the key. The quality of life is improved. Right off the bat you are saving $400 a month. Let’s look at transportation costs, assuming that the cheap apartments rent in NYC is $1000 a month and it is on the east side of Manhattan, and your job is on the west side of Manhattan, traveling will cost the fare of the subway. Let’s say that the fare back and forth is going to cost you $200 per month. The cost of traveling from New Jersey, will be for a park and ride deal, this will cost you $260 per month. It will be $60 more expensive, but think of the quality of life in New Jersey where you will have more space. Finding cheap apartments rent is a great way to save some money and may require just living a bit further from your job.
