A product called a "conversion burner" is available. The oil gun would be removed and the conversion burner would be mounted via a universal flange to the studs the oil gun was mounted on. These can be fired with nat. gas or lpg. (Use nat. if available-cheaper). 600-800 retail plus installation. Dependent on your cost per kw for electricity, strip heat elements may be retrofitted to the supply ductwork for about 100 each plus install. Check the costs per btu of your local fuel options. Also, many rebates and incentives are being offered by local utilities and the gov't. Good luck lc

How much does furnace installation usually cost?

The cost of furnace installation can vary significantly depending on several factors, including the type and size of the furnace, the complexity of the installation, your location, and any additional components or services required. On average, furnace installation costs can range from $2,500 to $7,500 or more. Here are some key factors that can impact the cost of furnace installation: Furnace Type: The type of furnace you choose (e.g., gas, electric, oil, or a high-efficiency model) can significantly affect the cost. High-efficiency models tend to be more expensive but offer long-term energy savings. Furnace Size: The size of the furnace is determined by the heating capacity needed for your home. A larger furnace may cost more to install. Ductwork: If your existing ductwork is not compatible with the new furnace or requires modifications, this can add to the installation cost. Location: Installation costs can vary by region and local labor rates. Urban areas may have higher labor costs than rural areas. Additional Components: If you need to install or replace thermostats, vents, or air filtration systems, this can add to the overall cost. Permits and Inspections: Some areas may require permits and inspections for furnace installations, which can incur additional fees. Labor Costs: The complexity of the installation, including any required ductwork or venting modifications, can affect labor costs. Brand and Quality: The brand and quality of the furnace can also influence the cost. High-end or well-known brands may be more expensive.

Will replacing the heat exchanger prolong the life of your furnace?

The heat exchanger in a furnace is the primary component in a furnace. That said, their are circuit boards, motors and other components that can also fail regardless of the age of the heat exchanger. In my opinion, if you can afford to replace the furnace, you would be much better off. The cost of the heat exchanger with labor is probably not too much less than replacing the entire furnace.
