To clear things up, most old bills are not silver certificates. The red seals and words "United States Note" across the top of your bills indicate yours are US Notes, a form of paper money issued until the late 1960s. US Notes were more like current Federal Reserve Notes and were not redeemable for silver.

Please see the Related Questions for specific values.

"In God We Trust"That phrase was first put on $1 bills in 1957 and other denominations starting in the 1960s, so the fact that a 1953 bill doesn't have it is not a mistake. Serial NumbersA bill's serial number is a counter and a security feature. In most cases it doesn't affect a bill's value or help to identify it. Some collectors specialize in bills with low serial numbers (e.g. 00000005) or unusual patterns (12344321) so these can bring above-average prices.

I've been told that 2 dollar bills are worth like $10.00... [<--- please see above for correction]

It might retail for about $10. A dealer of course will pay wholesale prices, about 30-40% less.

Is it uncirculated? Is it torn? Is it dirty? Is it all wrinkled? Are there any pieces missing? All this influences value? Maybe between $7 and $20
