Best Answer

Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc, and has been in use for thousands of years. It retains many of the good properties of copper, whilst being cheaper than that.

Other than steel, it is probably the next most common alloy. It is readily re-cyclable. It has valuable anti-bacterial properties.

As far as the retail value of brass, that depends upon the purity of the sample, and the local demand.

too more lots more than $1.60. Do a timeline search of commodity price of Copper. Brass compounds range from 60%+/- to 70%+/- Copper, Cost of brass depends on compound bought, and things like mill runs or how much is made at a mill, since setting up to smelt a compound is very very costly. 🗣

Brass Scrap is considerablly less than mill brass supplied to industry in the forms of sheet, plate, bar, rid, tube.

mills usually buy commodity metals to smelt compounds.

copper is listed on NYSE

to determine cost of copper which. Is variable. Perform an online search for Historical commodity price of copper to see if the junk yard is ripping you off when you sell scrap brass, which appears to dominate the opinion of what brass cost, instead of real industrial cost of various brass compounds in whatever shape.🗣
