None of Texas has rainfall rates low enough to call desert, though the Western part of the state is pretty arid.

The southwest portion of Texas is part of the very largeChihuahuan Desert. About 14 million acres of Texas is desert. However, the state has an area of 172 million acres, so it's not a large percent.

I live in Texas, and a lot of the time it's actually very moist and humid- but that depends where you live. Texas is so big and it has so many different areas. Some could be considered desert, but only a small percent of the whole state is technically desert.

The Chihuahuan Desert runs from northern Mexico down through the middle of the country to near Zacatecas north of Mexico City, about 1000 miles.

Only the far southwestern parts of Texas are located in the Chihuahuan Desert - in the El Paso area. The desert receives, on average, 9 inches or less of rain per year.
