Go to vet! don't experiment with your dogs health.

Some people can not afford care for their pet.

(Reply from a vet): The first answer is correct, you should only give prescription medicines when prescribed by a vet - if you end up giving the wrong dose the dog could develop a worse infection, and could be resistant to the antibiotic you have used. That will only result in a bigger vet bill!

There are many charities out there who will see people who can't afford to visit a vet - in the UK try the PDSA or RSPCA; you will usually just pay for the cost price of the drugs you are given. It's really important that a vet actually sees the animal - advice on here will not help you if the infection needs different antibiotics, or a long course - and if the infection is also causing pain you may need a pain killer as well (giving human painkillers to dogs can be VERY dangerous, and should never be done).

It GREATLY depends on what type of Penicillin. for an 80 lb (36 kg) dog the aqueous Pen G (300,000 units/ml) dosage that I would give is as follows: First dose = 4.5 ml INTRAMUSCULAR all subsequent doses = 4.0 ml intramuscular every 24 hours for a total of 5 doses Hope this helps.

Penicillin is a prescription medication as far as I know, so you'd want a vet to answer this question if it's for real-life use.

Assuming it's theoretical, I'll answer to the best of my knowledge (I'm not a vet and am not a good substitute for one!!). Veterinary medicines are dosed by weight, often by the kilogram. A 40 lb animal is about 18kg. From the USP site http://www.usp.org/pdf/EN/veterinary/penicillinG.pdf you want about 30 ku (thousand units) per kg (kilogram). Let's say you have 3000units per microliter (300,000 units per ml). Then you would want 180 microliters. But PLEASE if this is a question so you can dose your dog, ask a pharmacist or a vet!!!

You should never try to dose your dog yourself. Take your dog in to see a Veterinarian for whatever problem it has. It may be something that is not responsive to penicillin. Your dog may be allergic to penicillin, etc. Go see your Vet for medications needed and the proper dose.

This is unanswerable for several reasons. First, the dose will be based upon IUs/kg body weight (International Units per kilogram) - different formulations of penicillin have different concentrations (IU/mL). Second, the dose will vary depending upon the route of administration - injectable penicillin is dosed different from oral liquid penicillin. Third, the amount of penicillin to prescribe will vary depending upon the dog's overall health, the location of the infection being treated and the type of infection.

If you believe your dog would benefit from antibiotics, you should make an appointment with your veterinarian. It may turn out the infection would not be susceptible to penicillin and instead needs to be treated with tetracycline or another type of antibiotic.

Never never give medication to your dog at home without a Veterinarian being involved. You could cause much more harm than good and even possibly death. Your dog should be examined by your Veterinarian first. The Vet will prescribe the correct antibiotic, if needed, and the correct dosage for the condition the Vet is treating your dog for. Why on earth would you want to give amoxicillin to your dog without having him or her checked out by your Vet first?? Take your dog to your Vet.

That depends on the strength of the mixture of penicillin on hand. A veterinarian needs to make that determination.

Can children under the age of 12 take Amox Tr-K ClV?

Yes, but the dosage has to be prescribed based on the child's weight. The usual dose for children is 10 - 20 mg per pound a day, divided into 2 - 3 doses. This is a penicillin drug, so be sure your child is not allergic to penicillin before administering this drug, and ONLY give this to your child if prescribed by a doctor.
