∙ 13y agoWhen dogs are tested, they don't bite the hardest they can. It is imposible to meassure the exert while a pitbull is hanging by it's jaws because the mouse is closed. No other dog breed could that. This tells us that larger dogs not necesarily have a stronger bite. Don't forget that any dogs jaws has the preassure to inflict great damage to humans so if you see a dog, no matter if it is a pitbull or not, beware.

∙ 12y agoDon't go with the pressure measured in some kind of test. Dr. Lehr Brisbin of the University of Georgia states, "To the best of our knowledge, there are no published scientific studies that would allow any meaningful comparison to be made of the biting power of various breeds of dogs.
There are, moreover, compelling technical reasons why such data describing biting power in terms of "pounds per square inch" can never be collected in a meaningful way. All figures describing biting power in such terms can be traced to either unfounded rumor or, in some cases, to newspaper articles with no foundation in factual data."

breeds showed pressure PSI (per square inch) to be considerably lower
than some wild estimates that have been made. Testing has shown that
the domestic dog averages about 320 lbs of pressure per square inch.
Recently Dr. Brady Barr of National Geographic conducted a comparative
test between a Pit Bull, a Rottweiler, and a German Shepherd. The Pit
Bull had the LOWEST PSI OF THE THREE.
The highest pressure recorded from the Pit Bull was 235 lbs PSI. The
highest from the GSD was 238, and the highest from the Rott was 328.
Dr. Barr states that as far as he knows, the PSI tested in the Rott is the
highest on record for any domestic canine.
