How much should it cost to replace your rack pinion steering axle boots valve cover gasket and timing drive belts on your 94 Toyota Camry?
Answer . It will more than likely cost you a boat load. Especially if your taking it to a dealer. The rack and pinion is the beef. They are usually in the 100's of dollars to replace and they are labor intensive. Axle boot covers or CV joint covers, I assume you mean, are not bad if you can get w…rap around replacements. If you have to go with a non-wrappable boot your going to be able to replace the entire axle assembly for close to what it would cost to replace the boots. Valve cover gasket would be a few bucks. Timing belt would be cheap also but labor intensive.\n. \nMy guess going into the high end garage or dealership of around $1,500 - $3,000 for everything. (MORE)

When owning a car it is important to know the cost to replace partsthat go bad. The powering steering rack on a 1999 Altima GXE shouldcost between $150 to $200 for a person to do it on their own.
Answer . I had to replace the ones in my 1997 Sebring. . Using a tool such as a flat head screwdriver detach the plastic cover that is over the door speaker. Remove the screws that are holding the speaker to the door. Pull the speaker out enough to detach the plastic clip that connects the wiri…ng to the speaker. Rough estimate for replacement $400. ROUGH ESTIMATE FOR RACK AND PINION IS $800 THAT IS PARTS AND LABOR.
Estimate around $400. For a 2005 Impala with a new rack and pinion set and some of the old parts it came up to about $700, but that was cheaper than another price that was quoted.
The cost to replace the engine in your Chrysler Sebring will rangebetween $2000 and $6000. Replacing with a used engine will be thecheapest and replacing with a brand-new engine will cost the most.
I've got a 2004 and my mechanic is telling me just over $800. About $350 for the parts and the rest is labor. $500 in labor? Seems a little high. Found a rack and pinion rebuilt on the internet for $250. Not sure how much I trust my mechanic anymore...
I am assuming you are talking about the inner tie rod bushings that bolt into the rack and pinion. If so, remove the air cleaner completly, remove the plenum, and anything else that obstructs access to the rack and pinion. There are two bolts that go through the old rubber bushings. Thes bolts screw… into two blind holes in the rack. Be careful not to turn the stering wheel while the bolts are out. Also, there is a sleeve that has two holes in it. The large bolts are very difficult to rethread if any of this is moved. When reinstalling the bolts care must be taken not to cross thread the bolts. Take you time. There are washers that are used and a locking tab. Replace all parts in order. Don't forget to bend the locking tabs or the bolts will vibrate out. (MORE)
i just got quoted $598.00 on my 1990 dynasty. That's Canadian prices. a reconditioned rack and pinion for $230 and 4 hrs labour at $89.95, i think i can find a better deal somwhere else though, they tried to upsell me for 2600 in extra work
Answer . sure its a good protection against road debris. It helps anything from sticking to the rod and cutting any gaskets.
Much easier and cheaper to replace the rack with a rebuilt unitthan to try to fix the old one.
In order to replace a rack and pinion on a Nissan 200SX, you willneed to remove the front wheels, the steering coupler, the powersteering lines, and various bolts. You will then be able to removethe rack and pinion. Place the new rack and pinion in place, andreturn the various parts.
Usually between $400 and $800. It depends on the shop you take it to, where they get their parts and what their labor rate is. Labor is about 2-3 hours and the rack itself can cost up to $400.
On a 1999 Chevy Malibu, the price to fix a rack will be on average120 dollars. This is not the labor, this is just the part.Depending on the mechanic the labor will run anywhere from 50 to150 dollars.
Just got a call from Meineke where I dropped off my 1998 Plymouth Voyager van because of squeeling noise in steering. Thought it was time to replace the serpentine and probably the tensioner. Instead, the manager called to tell me I was loosing steering fluid because the R & P was shot. The rack and… pinion needed to be replaced to the tune of $700.00. Well, I picked up the van for $100.00 (and it even included $50.00 worth of gas!) I told him to refill the steering fluid and call it a day. At this point I'll just keep spare fluid in the van and run it to the ground. I'm in Connecticut, where even the air is expensive. Don't know how this price compares in other areas. (MORE)
I just replaced the alternator on a 97 Sebring JXi convertible, 2.5L engine. I had to remove the four AC compressor mounting bolts so that the AC could be moved away from the engine enough to get a socket on the alternator pivot bolt. You do not need to break the compressor lines. I also removed the… top mounting ear bolt and the bracket to make room to remove the alternator from the engine compartment.. Of course the first thing you do is disconnect the negative battery terminal either at the battery or at the jumper cable location in the engine compartment. You also have to loosen the idler pulley and remove the belt. I removed the front right wheel and plastic cover to get to the pulley and belt. This also permits better access to the AC compressor bolts.. I found it easier to get the alternator free before I disconnected the electrical wires. (MORE)
The 2005 Chevrolet Malibu came equipped with the engine options ina 2.2 L4, 3.5 V6 and 3.8 V6. The AC Delco Professional (OEM)complete rack and pinion range in wholesale price from 233-300+$USD. Labor will approximately be 2-3 hours, and an alignment willbe needed after install. Labor rates and shop… supplies vary by shopwith mechanical averages around 100$/hr as July 2014 in the UnitedStates. (MORE)
Answer dated 8th March 2012. Chrysler Sebring 2002, 2.7V6 4 door LXi Sedan. I shopped around and surprisingly, the best price I got was from my local Chrysler dealer. The water pump runs off the timing chain and is in an insanely ridiculous place - inside the engine crank-case. The boffins at Chr…ysler must have been very, very stoned when they approved that particular piece of design genius. Labor charges make up most of the cost due to the pump's horrible location and the time it takes to get at it. Since you will have to spend the money getting to the pump, you would be mad not to change the timing chain while you're there. My car has done 127k on the original water pump, so should be good for at least another 100k now the job is done. My trusted private mechanic's boss quoted be an eye-popping £2,088. Chrysler quoted $1,310 including tax. Parts and labor warrantied for 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first. By comparison, my wife's Mercury Sable needed a water new pump and that cost $350.00, all in. Ouch. Good luck with your repair! (MORE)
The rack and pinion costs around $200. Figure in labor and it willprobably cost around $600. Maybe a little more or less as someshops charge a lower labor rate.
They are in the rear of the engine. Two can be reached byt two more are between the bell housing and the engine. Not a do-it-yourself job.
It's located in the front wheel well. Remove front left wheel, then unscrew battery door.. Actually, there's no reason to remove the driver's side front wheel, just turn wheel to left and right behind the wheel you'll find an access panel, remove this and there's your battery. Recommend removing ne…gative post first to prevent "short circuit" when removing positive terminal. Good Luck! (MORE)
10/28/2012...I recently got a quote from a local mechanic...wait for it...for over $1400, quoting over eight bills for the part alone. Online, you can get refurbished racks from reputable places for around a hundred to two hundred bucks and even if a mechanic charges a few hundred to install, you're… saving a ton over what my guy quoted. Gonna do it myself next spring. I'll have to have it towed to get the wheel alignment done, but I'll get to keep my car! Oh yeah, quoted over five bills for the power steering pump as well when online the part is about forty bucks without the core. Gotta lift the engine to install it, but that is not as hard as it sounds. Trust me, I'm a complete novice backyard mechanic. Hope this helps, if you didn't post like ten years ago, ha ha! (MORE)
check any link on here for rack & pinion replacement, then click the link I have supplied so you can find the joys of doing it on a Taurus. Buy a factory service manual, and expect a lot of busted knuckles.
First jack up the front of the car and suspend it with jackstands from behind the front wheels, you'll need to drop the crossmember under the steering in order to get this done. Unfortunately that crossmember is also attached to your suspension. Before dropping the crossmember too low, you must disc…onnect the steering shaft from the steering assembly (it's a resistance pin, I just used an air hammer to knock it out). Lower the crossmember, replace the steering components by removing the 4 bolts holding it to the crossmember and the 2 fluid lines, and the ball joints at the axles. Finally, put it all back together and raise the crossmember back in place. Oh, and then go get an alignment at your normal dealership. Refill with ATF+4 fluid when you're done. By the way, the 2007 PT Cruiser with 38,000 miles that I just replaced this on cost $263 for the remanufactured parts from the local Chrysler dealer, I did the work myself to save the $550 labor charge. New parts were quoted to me for $485. So if you want new parts and them do the labor, around $1000. And hopefully you're not like me with 2k miles over the full warranty and having them laugh when you ask if it's covered under the 7/70 portion of the warranty. It's not hard to do, took me about 4 hours total and I'm an amateur mechanic working out of my house garage. Total replacement cost including the alignment (less my labor) was about $325. (MORE)
Remove both wheels, Disconect both tie rods from from steering knuckle, remove the stabilizer bar, unplug O2 sensor, diconnect the catalitic converter from exhaust manifold ( unscrew the catalitic converter and lower the whole assembly as one) this will gave you more room when sliding the rack and p…inion out of the subframe), unplug and plug both power steering lines connected to the steering gear, remove the two bolts holding the rack and pinion to the subframe. Cloth or vynl? I replaced my 11998 sybring convert. with a cloth top for $1400 here in new york!
That's a question best answered by your dealer. I believe they are under a recall. Call your local GM dealer, ask to speak to service, and when someone answers the phone, say I would like to see if my car has any recalls. The guy on the other end of the phone should say OK, hold on. Then when he pul…ls up the recall system on his computer, he will ask you for your VIN. If its not covered under the recent recall, probly around 400-500 bucks. Some may charge as high as 900. (MORE)
The labor cost to replace a rack and pinion steering on a 97 Taurusshould run between $500 and $750. The actual cost varies based onthe location in which it is repaired in and the repair shop.
I just did it myself last weekend. The parts (Distributor, Cap, Rotor, and new spark plug wires) cost right around $300. I would add $600 to $700 in labor to that. So total right around $1,000.
When it is leaking fluid, or when a part of it has too much play in it.
I have a Chrysler Cirrus , and I just got my wheel front passenger side fixed... 208 dollars. I'm pissed
5 to 6 hundred dollars if you find an honest mechanic.....good luck with that !
I just took my 2004 T&C to dealer: $1200 plus tax.. You can get it done for that. I had a 2001 (same style) and bought the part from Autozone for $200 and my regular mechanic put it in for $300. I have a 2005 now with 60,000 miles on it and have had no problems with that part...yet.
you have to remove the sub frame, tie rods, 3 bolts that hold the RP in place, hoses to cooler, and tubing at rack. I did the job with no problem and was not necessary to remove subframe.
Just had Rack and pinion replaced on my 1999 Explorer, it cost $450which included parts and labor.
If you have the right tools and lifts and knowledge you can do it yourself for bout $300.00 (the part). Most traditional auto repair shops and dealership service departments will charge you $900.00 to 1,000.00 for parts and labor.
That depends on what size tires you have and what quality tires you buy. The tires could be between $80 apiece and $250 apiece.
I suggest you buy the manual for the car(Chiltons etc.) It's an ignorant job and you're better off to pay someone to do it if you've never done one.
There are two bolts you must turn to remove the old tension pulley. The one on the pulley must be loosened in order to loosen the tension pulley. To the left of the pulley(looking from the passenger side of the vehicle) the tensioning bolt is situated at a right angle to the pulley bolt. It is point…ing towards the rear of the vehicle. There is an aluminum slug inside the mount point for the pulley. You may have trouble threading the bolt back into the slug once removed. It is possible but you may have to hold the slug steady with the tensioning bolt. Be sure to keep the aluminum brace that goes on the outside of the pulley. It will be hard to find if you lose it. Once the bolt holding the tensioner is removed from the engine the parts simply slip apart. Be sure to reassemble them just like you dissasembled them. Tighten the bolt to the point that the pulley can still be adjusted with the tensioning bolt. Tighten the tensioning bolt until the belt is tight to specifications. then be sure to tighten down the pulley bolt. (MORE)
The price to replace a blown head gasket on a Chrysler Sebring V6should be around $1,000.00. The price can vary depending on whereyou have the repairs made or if you replace it yourself.
The estimated cost of a rack and pinion replacement can be from$250 to over $2,000. It all depends on the cost of the new rack andpinion, labor, and the make and model of the vehicle.
$2400 _______________________________________________________________ It depends on which engine you have and in what geographic area your vehicle is located. For a 2.4L engine in the Middle Tennessee Area, the part runs $231 (incl. tax) at Autozone and the labor around $700 at an independent shop… to $900 at a dealer. (Of course the dealer would charge more for the OEM part also.) So if you have the 4 cyl., you could get it done for under $1000 here. (MORE)
Step 1. Acquire a Haynes manual for your year make and model. Step 2. Read all of Section 10 and see if there are other small jobs like bushings and struts that you can replaced while you have everything apart. Maybe you'll notice a way to do it faster too! Step 3. Ensure you have all the tools …to get the job done as well as the parts Step 4. Execute Section 10-17 'STEERING GEAR - REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION' NOTE: Check with your local dealer and give the service department your V/N and they will tell you what rack and pinion you need as they vary; SBA - Standard Steering SBP - Performance Steering SBC - Speed Proportional Steering (Your vehicle will only support 1 type of rack) Budget 3.5 hours if you know what your doing and 5-7 if you don't. I just did all this research today for myself and noticed it was really hard to find so I hope this helps some people! Good Luck! Ryan (MORE)
Looking through the users manual is the best way to do this. Youcan also get the help of a mechanic to make sure that you are doingit right.
Dealer quoted me $1,300, not including replacing the hoses. I decided to do it myself and it's going to cost less than $500 for parts (new complete rack, hoses, filter, fluid, outer tie rods) and having a shop do an alignment. The forums I've read say it's not too difficult and takes about 4 hours f…or a reasonably mechanically inclined person. (MORE)
some people never replace the rack and pinion. It's one of those things that you don't replace unless it NEEDS to be replaced. It's usually expensive, even to do yourself. A good way to keep power steering components from needing to be replaced is to install a magnefine filter in the power steering …return line. Google "magnefine power steering filter". It's about $16 and WELL worth the investment! (MORE)
rack and pinion on most cars will probably cost around $800 to replace at a private shop. The dealership will probably cost double.
