Several factors come into play with digital media. The compression that is used and the resolution have the most effect.
At "D2" (broadcast) quality, it's about 10MB per minute of video. On an iPod, the resolution is much lower, and MPEG-4 compression is used, so it works out to about 1MB per minute.
