That depends on the jurisdiction. In the UK prisoners are 'considered for release' on serving half their sentence provided they have not behaved badly in prison. In other countries the position is likely to be different. (Different rules apply to life sentences).

Hi, A one year sentence will usually get you 9 months add to that time off for good behaviour and your out on parole in 6 months.
