Daily water intake by a chicken is variable depending on season, ambient temperature, age, weight and even the breed of chicken. A good rule of thumb would be a half liter of water per bird per 24 hour period but all other factors would influence the need and they could consume more. Layers need more than an average meat birds to compensate for water lost to egg production. Free range hens acquire much of their water from plants and would need to drink less. Always provide as much fresh, clean water as your birds can use.

It is fine general feed but for best egg laying results you need to add extra calcium and protein to the diet. Layer pellets or layer complete is not much more expensive than cracked corn. If not available in your area try adding 10% soy bean and a vitamin tonic to the daily water supply.
