No. A dishwasher will not sanitize dishes unless the option is turned on. A normal cycle will use very hot water to wash and itβs good enough. A sanitary cycle heats water to 170 degrees. You should have a good reason to use this cycle.
Assuming you're running the dishwasher fully packed, then handwashing the same number of dishes would consume more water. Yet if you are running the dishwasher with not to much silverware it would save water to just hand wash them.
The dishwasher will clean canning jars. The water will reach 150 degrees or hotter. Use your options on the dishwasher if you want hotter water.
