Banff and Jasper National Parks as well as other national parks and public lands combined with private activities, such as ski resorts, attract millions of tourists each year. As with most things in life, a price must be paid for benefits. The jagged and tall mountains inhibit transportation. Only a few roads and railways cross the mountains, so that east-west movement across Canada is limited.
