A child under the age of six weighing less than 60 pounds may ride in the front seat of a vehicle when: * There is no rear seat or the rear seats are either side-facing jump seats or rear-facing seats. * The child passenger restraint system cannot be installed properly in the rear seat. * All rear seats are already occupied by children under the age of 12 years. * A medical reason requires the child to ride in the front seat. A child may not ride in the front seat of an airbag-equipped vehicle if the child: * Is under one year of age. * Weighs less than 20 pounds. * Is riding in a rear-facing child passenger restraint system.

When can a child sit in the front sit in California?

When they are 12 or up

When can you sit in the front seat in North Carolina?

If you consult the buckleupnc.org website, the recommendation is to keep your child in the back seat as long as possible. Children under 5 should always be in the backseat...but then it gets a little fuzzy. The recommendation is that children 1-12 should sit in rear seats whenever possible. My understanding is that once your child is age 12, they are usually tall enough to withstand the effect of an airbag deploying at 150-200 mph. FYI, over half the deaths caused by airbag deployment have been in children sitting in the front passenger seat.

What age or weight must a front seat passenger be in the UK?

In Michigan, a child 4 years of age may ride in the front seat of a vehicle if all other seats are taken by children under the age of 4. A rear-facing car seat can be placed in the front seat if the airbag is turned off.

How much do you have to weigh to sit in the passenger seat in California?

In the state of California, all children under 6 years old and under 60 pounds must ride in the back. Only if the rear seats are occupied by other young children, there are no rear seats, or in case of a medical condition can an exception be made to this law.

What age child can ride in car seat in front seat in PA?

Child Restraint Systems. Drivers of a passenger car, class I or class II truck, classic motor vehicle, antique motor vehicle, or motor home who transport children, 4 years of age or older, but less than 8 must fasten the child securely in a safety seat system and an appropriate fitting child booster seat. Drivers are also responsible for ensuring that all occupants age 8 and older but under age 18 are wearing a safety belt when riding anywhere in the vehicle. This also applies to school vehicles. -Effective February 21, 2003. It doesn't state in the DMV. I would ask a local police officer or the DA's office. Good luck

In NC is it legal for my child to drive uninsured when he has his license if I am in the car with him and have insurance on the car?

Insurance is issued on the vehicle, not the driver. If your child, properly licensed, is driving with you in the front passenger seat, the vehicle and its passengers are covered.

What is the legal age a child can be able to ride at the front seat of a car in NY?

Effective March 27, 2005: all back seat passengers who are age four or older but under age seven must be restrained in an appropriate child restraint system. A child older than four years of age and over four feet nine inches in height may be restrained by a safety belt. It is not illegal under NYS law for a child passenger to ride in the front seat of a vehicle that has a passenger air bag, but it is dangerous. Recent studies show that air bags can cause serious or fatal injuries to infants, children or small adults that sit in the passenger-side front seat. It is also normally safer for a child of any age to ride in the back seat of any vehicle. For the best child passenger protection in your vehicle: * Never put a child safety seat in the front seat of a vehicle and face it toward the rear of a vehicle if that vehicle has a passenger-side air bag. * Do not put small children in the front seat of vehicle that has an air bag. Put a child that does not use a safety seat and who is less than five ft. in height in the back seat. * If a child must ride in the front seat, make sure the car seat is installed as far back as possible. Fasten the child securely in the child safety seat or seat belt. An air bag that opens suddenly can cause a serious injury to your infant or young child. * Air bags, used with seat belts, provide the best protection for older children and adults during an accident. * Remember that the back seat is the safest location for children to ride.

What is the law about children riding in the front passenger seat of a vehicle in IN?

not allowed

Never place a child passenger in the front seat of any vehicle. True or False?

It doesn't tend to be illegal (of course that varies by state/country) but in the event of a collision, the child would be much safer in the back seat than in the front. Under no circumstances should a child in a rear facing booster seat be placed in the front seat as if the airbags deploy, the child will probably be killed.

Assuming this vehicle is front wheel drive, you probably have a bad passenger side half shaft.

§ 27360 of California's Vehicle Code requires that children under the age of 8 must remain in the back seat and be restrained with an "appropriate child passenger restraint system." There are some exceptions: for children above a certain weight and height, if the car has no back seat, etc.
