What is gir from invader zim?

GIR is an robot (sir unit) given to the irken defective zim when he goes on a fake mission to planet earth. He rarely obeys Zim's commands, yet was never permanently

replaced because he seems to be Zim's only friend (Dib seems to be more of a frenemy). Sometimes GIR dresses like a green dog but never acts anything like one, he, however still manages to fool humans.

I have something quite contrary to the previous answer. The only reason I kept that answer up is because it made me laugh. But I did cross it out so all will disregard it, hopefully. -_-" A few (a lot) of things (okay everything) are wrong with the previous answer.

1) There are actually lots of cartoon characters who are voiced by a person who is an opposite gender of the character, but that doesn't make the character that gender.

2) GIR is actually (believe it or not) an abbreviation just like the SIRs. It's not actually a complete name. No one really knows what GIR stands for, but I like to think it means Garbage Information Retrieval~. Y'know. Since he was "born" in the trash and SIRs are (I forgot) Information Retrieval.

3) GIR is a robot, so therefore has no gender. Though, if you really wanted to, you could imagine in your head whatever gender you want GIR to be~!

Gir on Invader Zim sands for: Garbage Irken Robot. Also Sir stands for Standard Issue information Retrieval unit. You will find that out if you lisen carefully to the tallest on the first episode of Invader Zim: The Nightare Begins. They say what it is when they are assigning robots to the invaders (and the fake invqder: zim). Then they say: "...Also known as a sir..." I hope this helped!
