There are two possible answer for your question. You did not word it either way so I am going to give you two answers.
In short, there might have been. I would say drug use among people has roughly stayed the same. No matter how hard the government has tried to crack down, people still use drugs. Ever since ancient times, people have been trying to find new and innovative ways to make them feel different then what they currently feel now.
There was definitely more acid back then, and it was way more potent back then. The weed is better today because of the techniques for growing and making new strains has increased the potency and heartiness of the marijuana plant. People may say that potency is a bad thing with weed, but NO thay are misinformed. If you are talking health, then listen: If the person was smoking weed of yesteryear, it wouldn't be as potent as todays 20% THC weed.
The weed of yesteryear had an average potency of 8 percent, double todays average (in most locales). The reason that the more potent the healthier is that they have to smoke less material to feel the same effect. Just because it is more potent, doesnt mean its more dangerous. The smart individual will sample a hit and then wait, not smoke a whole joint.
The more potent it is, the less harmful smoke (which contains tars and combusted material from the plant) has to be inhaled for the desired effect. It's still the same THC in every bag of weed (no matter the potency). People just want you to think todays weed is worse and "harder" then the weed of the 60s. Marijuana has been proven to kill cancer cells along with hundreds of other benefits proven by scientific research.
People have also found new ways to smuggle drugs into continents that don't allow that sort of thing (what they are doing is waging a civil war against their own people).
The other answer is YES, YES, YES! There are more designer drugs today such as 2C-b and other designer drugs that chemists can make. I wasnt sure if you meant quantity or different kinds of drugs. You should have elaborated.
There are many many many more drugs available today then there was in the 60s. Every day, chemists could come up with certain chemicals that could be psychoactive that weren't here yesterday (let alone 50 years ago). Some drugs get easier to make because someone discovers an alternate synthesis for a particular compound.
We are also delving into the era of Nootropic drugs. They are also referred to as smart drugs, memory enhancers, and cognitive enhancers. They include drugs, supplements, nutraceuticals, and functional foods that are purported to improve mental functions such as cognition, memory, intelligence, motivation, attention, and concentration.
Each day as science and the medical community learn more and more about the human brain and how it works, we can create chemicals that do certain specific things, such as seeing things that aren't there, feeling euphoria without any side effects, feeling dizzy when you aren't spinning around and around...etc etc. The possibilities are virtually limitless. Only time will tell whether or not these things will be available to the public either legally, or, unfortunately, illegally.
Sorry for the rant , but at least you got an answer (though severely biased).
Drugs were more noticeable in the 1960's and 1970's than other time frames. it was frowned upon, but the "War on Drugs" (which has been a failure) came much later.

Music written during the Classical period for small ensembles is known as chamber music.
Most of the music came out of the church in the Middle Ages. Sacred music was the most prevalent. The Psaltery was a musical instrument that was used. It was like a harp and lyre.
There has not been an American and Japanese period.

The Classical period took the polyphony, some structures and the new tonal system from the Renaissance/Baroque period and made it a clearer and mostly homophonic music which is still what is prevalent currently...
