Segregation was a time in American history when black persons and white person could not marry, go to the same schools, eat at the same restaurant, or sit in the same areas of a bus. The Civil Rights movement was very successful in defeating segregation. For instance, whites and blacks can now marry, eat in the same restaurant, and go to the same schools.
