They are so minuscule they cannot be seen even with the most powerful optical or even electronic ( usually in English, called Electron Microscopes). Microscopes. There was a sort of camera that was exhibited by Nikon at the l964 World's Fair that was said to be able to photograph the smallest particles of matter but this was probably on a molecular, not atomic level. It probably had a salutary Industrial ( Good for business) application in analysis of steels and other metals, with an eye towards rust and fracture prevention. Oddly this electronic microscope-cum camera was not working when Dad and I took in the Nikon exhibit at the House of the Rising Sun. They also displayed Ballistic cameras as tools of science.
