Front disk brakes are much easier than the rear drums to change. For reference just do one side at a time. That way if you don't remember how something goes together you still have a properly assembled side to look at.
You first remove the wheel. Second you remove the caliper assembly. Sometimes a common socket will remove these bolts but quite often a special tool is required. These are easily available and quite inexpensive. You will need either a hex Allen key socket or a torx socket. They should only cost about 5 dollars each. Ask the parts store which size and type you need and they "should" know.
Next, open your brake fluid cap and remove a little fluid if it is high. This is due to the fact that you must compress the caliper piston to install the new pads. They sell a special tool to do this for about 5 dollars or you can carefully use water pump pliers. You can do this while the inner pad is on the caliper to protect the piston from damage.
Lastly remove the pads and any clips, noting where they go. There are not many parts any you should be able to do this. Before you install the new pads, wire brush where the pads slide and put a wee bit of grease on these areas. Also wipe off the old grease from the caliper slide bolts and regrease them.
Install the caliper in reverse of dis-assembly...put on the wheel and you are done 1 side. Don't forget to put on the brake fluid cap after you make sure the fluid is at the proper heighth. Each side should take about 30 minutes or less to change making this a pretty quick repair.
You rem ve caliper, remove old pads, fit new ones.

Remove the tire and wheel from your 1999 Chevy Cavalier. Remove the brake spring and the caliper. The brake pads will come off. Tap on the rotor with a hammer or mallet. The rotor will slide off. Reverse the process to install the new brakes and rotor.
