How to get my 2007 Honda Civic rear door handle which had been pulled too hard on and is now limp but can be opened from the inside to open with the door handle from the outside?

check the pull rod from the inside door handle to the door latch. You have to remove the inner door panel. But first, check the switch on the edge of the door to make sure the child safety lock is not engaged. These were designed to prevent kids from opening the door. there should be a little pin switch close to the actual door latch.

∙ 12y agoRemove the inside door panel and replace the outside handle. If the outside handle is limp, the arm that attaches to the rod that connects to the lock has probably broken off.

it is usually the slave. At least for the 94, I believe it was moved outside the bell housing. For prior years it was INSIDE the bell housing so the whole Xfer case/trans had to be pulled to get at it. If it is leaking, look for brake fluid around the master inside & outside the firewall. If none seen, then probably the slave is leaking. Brake fluid also eats paint so fix it quick before it eats it away.

You need a special tool to remove the door and window crank and a tool for the retainers. TAke the inside handles off and then all o f the screws you can find then the retainers around the sides and bottom of the panel. When all is loose, pull out on the bottom of hte panel and push in on the top to disengage it from the door.

When you pull up on your handle, these two arms on the handle in turn push two levers, one lever will pull on the right side rod and the other lever will pull on the left rod. After time these levers start to get bent out of shape from use. Eventually, when you pull up on your handle to open your tailgate usually one of the levers is so bent that is doesn't fully pull the rod enough to release the latch. One side might release but not the other. So here's what you do---lift up on the handle about halfways and look up under there. You can see where the two rods (the ends are in an 'L' shape) are inserted into plastic nuts. You can now see when you lift up the handle all the way which rod isn't getting pulled on---the one with the least movement. Those plastic rod clips clip onto the shaft of the rod after the tip of the rod is inserted into it. Let's first release the clips---Get a long flat-bladed screwdriver and position it under the part of the clip that is on the shaft. Pry up on it until it releases from the shaft. You can now push the 'L' shaped part of the rod out of the clip. Do that to the other clip also, although you might have to pry down on the clip to release it then remove the 'L' shaped end from the clip. Now you can manually pull the 'L' shaped ends of the rods towards each other to release the latches. Maybe a pair of pliers or needle-nosed pliers would be easier. Pushing on the tailgate to relieve the pressure on the latches may make it easier to pull on the rods too. You can also release one side at a time to open it. Once opened you can take the bent handle off of the tailgate and try to reposition the bent parts (which works a lot of the times) or just replace it. Just remove the three bolts on the inside of the tailgate and wiggle the handle out. Maybe hold the handle in the open position while removing it might help. Then you can operate the handle and see where everything makes contact with each other and see if you can put things back in the position they were supposed to be. When all is said and done be sure to WD-40 everything!!! Hope this helps best of luck.

My problem was the outside handle wasnt working, and the childlock was put on, and door closed. To open a door I couldn't get open from either side, I unscrewed the handle from the inside. I pulled the rod with my fingers, and it opened, then I put the rod on the one from the inside handle. I'm still figuring out how to take the panel off, or get to where the rod is on the outside handle. I cant reach far enough to put the rod back on the handle for the outside, so any help on that would be nice!~

It seems to me there's a panel that runs along there as well that you have to remove. My old handle broke so I just pulled the remains out from the inside of the door. Start by removing that panel on the door frame, and look for it's bolts. Buy a Haynes manual if you're still confused.

I did this on a 93 Safari. You have to take the inside arm rest / handle off of the door, then remove the entire door panel. There's an insulation, sound deadening sheet glued to the door beneath the panel. Some of that will have to be pulled back as well. After that, it's all about contorting your arms into shapes you never knew they could make by reaching way up inside the door, loosening a few nuts on the back side of the handle itself and pulling it out through the outside. Probably would help to have a friend when you try to put the new handle on.

Assuming you are referring to the outer door handle, remove the inner door panel and look at the back of the handle. You will see a couple of steel rods attached to the handle, remove these(they just unclip)and move them out of your way. You should be able to see a couple of small nuts holding the handle to the door. Remove these and the handle can be pulled out of the door from the outside.
