The most well-known Intifada was a way to defend the Palestinian lands and demonstration of protest against the injustice of the Israeli Occupiers. It is what called minor Jihad. Refer to related question below.
Lesser-known intifadas, such as those in Iraq, Iran, Libya, and other countries were uprisings by Muslims against their own tyrannical governments. These can be said to be jihads to the extent that they wish to limit the autocrat's power and restore justice to its rightful place to protect their homes and families.

Answer 1It is not true. Jihad is important for both men and women. There are two types of Jihad. Self Jihad that means struggling to obey God commands and striving to get His satisfaction and blessings. The other type of Jihad is military Jihad that is in the early centuries was only withing men and supported by women for medical service and other social requirements.Answer 2When most Non-Muslims refer to Jihad, they are talking about the Lesser Jihad, which is to say military action on behalf of the Umma or Islamic Nation. The reason that women do not actively participate in this more violent form of Jihad is simply cultural misogyny that is dominant in most Muslim-majority countries and most Islamic communities. There have been increasing pushes towards gender equality, however, in acts of violent Jihad. For example, about 5% of Palestinian suicide bombers in the Second Intifada were women. However, in more traditional paramilitaries like ISIL, the cultural view of male superiority is more difficult to overcome than suicide bombing where it is clear that a woman can confer strategic advantages (such as hiding a bomb as a "pregnancy bump").
The Palestinians and the Israelis were the main people who were involved with the first intifada.
