Barack Obama has had many years of trying to help others. There are many people today who disagree with his politics, but it is a fact that he has made a very sincere effort to help poor and working-class people. He was a community organizer and advocate for the poor in Chicago, where he helped them get access to services to which they were entitled, and sometimes provided them with legal advice. He was a civil rights attorney, working on cases where discrimination and prejudice were factors. And as a professor of law, he designed a popular course about prejudice and how the law addresses it.
He has always donated to charities, especially those that give scholarships to deserving kids (as a young person, it was only thanks to his hard-working grandparents that he was able to attend a private high school, and he has said that this made him feel very fortunate, and it made him want to give back someday). He has also said he entered politics because he wanted to help people-- some of his work as an Illinois state senator involved advocacy for poor families. Thus, without even considering his political career, we can certainly say that his life has many examples of trying to help others.
He plans to help America with Strong, truthful plans, and he will make change for the better.
He won't help us, he will continue to dig us into a greater ditch that was created by Clinton and stalled by Bush.
He is not. He is a DNC figurehead. Product of Chicago-style politics. A ruse at best. The best part of all this is he said in his campaign, Change change change, then in his acceptance speech he said, basically, we can't do this now. Oh yea, that's change I can believe in, bollocks to that. Anyone ever see the movie "Idioacracy"? It's coming....
Federal funding of stem cell research; closer oversight of the financial services/credit card industry; ratification of the nuclear weapons reduction treaty with Russia; rescue of the US automobile industry; health insurance reform; timetables for bringing our troops home from Iraq and Afghanistan; extension of unemployment compensation; an end to discrimination against homosexuals in the military; assisted in the overthrow of Gaddafi, at no loss of American life.
Yes, while most of what he set out to achieve was blocked by gridlock in the American political system, he was able to bring to fruition a health care reform which will eventually be seen as a great help to most of the American people.
