Some criticisms of the Nikon D5000 are that is small and has less pixel resolution that other models. These criticisms are mainly aesthetic in quality and different people may view them as positive points in regards to price point or size.
No. Architectural photography requires control over converging vertical lines. Anytime you shoot a building and don't hold the camera perfectly perpendicular to the building's surface, the vertical surfaces of the building willh converge making it look like it's leaning in the picture. You need 1) a view camera with tilt, shift & swing lens plate and ground glass, or 2) perspective control lenses for the D5000, which run over $1000 a pop.
The Nikon D5000 comes with a Nikkor AF-S 18-55mm kit lens when bought, though you can also purchase the camera new without the lens, or with a series of other choices of lenses. This lens is a good starting lens to learn the basics with, but if you are looking for a more professional method of photographing, I would recommending investing in a prime or zoom lens.
