Yes, I also have a Remington 244. I haven't it shot it in years but it used to work great with Winchester 6mm cartridges. Seemed to jam more with Remington for some odd reason.

There have never been any recalls on the Remington Model 742 that I'm aware of. The Remington 742 is now an obsolete model and was replaced with the Remington Model 7400. The bolt received an upgraded design along with the magazine catch/release. At one time Remington was offering a Model 7400 as a replacement for the Model 742, if you sent them your Model 742 along with $350.00. Is there a problem with the 742 that you have?
At store in Northwest Ct. I saw some ranging in price from $150-$250, depending on condition.
Check barrel code on Remington Society of America: http://remingtonsociety.com/rsa/questions/barrelcodes
I have a Remington model 31 in 16ga and i shoot regular low brass shells in it and it does fine, it would depend on the type of game you are hunting. High brass shells are for more power and longer range.
The Model 81's are all date code stamped, go to the Remington Society of America there is a diagram (click it) and a table which explains the codes (month/year)
Assuming it is the Model 81 Woodsmaster, excellent condition examples in .35 Rem are bringing more than $400. sales@countrygunsmith.net
