Have you noticed it growing or shrinking? It sounds like a myofascial trigger point (knot in your muscle). Usually these are caused by overuse or stress when the muscle is basically "on" and doesn't relax. Massage Therapy and exercise are the usual recommendations.

For my school athletics, I do the following crunches: 30 crunches, right elbow to left knee 30 crunches, left elbow to right knee 30 crunches, legs bent to the left 30 crunches, legs bent to the right. That adds up to 120 crunches. You could do many more, or even less. It really depends on how fit you are.

its more then just crunches, as typical as it sounds you must eat a right combination of foods and sleep. Water or certain teas help too. if you do crunches you will stregthen your muscles but in order for you to see if you must remove the fat covering over top the muscles.
You could try crunches or sit ups. There are also a number of machines at gyms you can try to burn inches. Inches are burnable. They will burn right up.
